Plaid Cymru’s Peredur Owen Griffiths has taken part in a Q&A session at a high school in Torfaen.
The Senedd Member for South Wales East also listened to presentations from pupils at Cwmbran High School on a range of subjects that are important to them.
These subjects included free school transport, policing, the environment, homelessness, the protection of artists from increasing AI use and the expansion of free school meals into secondary schools.
Peredur was first treated to a presentation from Year 9 pupils which touched on the history of Cardiff Bay but also covered the Senedd, its powers and its imminent expansion.
The school’s headteacher, Matthew Sims, also had a chat with Peredur about education and the challenges of school leadership.
Afterwards, Peredur said: “I enjoyed my visit to Cwmbran High School where I received a warm welcome. The pupils I met were switched on, informed and had some incisive questions for me to field.
“The presentations by the three Year 9 pupils were excellent, as were the issues covered by the Year 8 pupils.
“It was great to see that many of the burning issues for young people are covered by the policy platform that Plaid Cymru is putting together ahead of the Senedd elections in May.”
Peredur added: “The staff at Cwmbran High School deserve credit for engendering an interest in politics among pupils.
“The future of democracy relies on young people participating and getting involved, especially if the issues that affect young people most are to be addressed by politicians and governments.
“What was clear from the visit to Cwmbran High is that pupils are realising that politics play an important part in many aspects of their life.
“That was a heartening thing to see.”
